Here she advertised herself as governess, and was engaged by ...petition but did not stay in that family very long, and came to ...-house again asking to be taken in. Until she received an answer upon certain letters. This four letters came day week for her from German Consulate and ever since she shut herself up in her room, refusing food and water. I believe I have already mentioned to you that I had to use force to open her room, when I found her in a swoon. On coming to senses, Tuesday morning, she set off to the City Hall where I followed her, and finding that she had entirely collapsed, put her in a chair and brought her to the Hospital.

Colonial Secretary's Office, Hongkong, 19 September, 1885.
I am directed by the Governor to transmit to you the annexed copy of a letter and its enclosures from the Colonial Surgeon respecting the admission into the Lunatic Asylum of one Marie Jaune, a native of Germany.
And I am to state that His Excellency would be glad if you would make arrangements for the payment of her hospital expenses and for sending her home, as suggested by Dr Ayres, when she is in a fit state to be removed.
